Intellectual ability, professional achievements and teamwork are all among the qualities the Ross admissions committee is looking for in applicants. As you consider topics for this essay focus on the ones that will demonstrate you are a strong leader and that you can learn from experience.
One possible source of ideas are the inflection points in your career. When did you face a turning point or make a big decision about your career? What were some of the most challenging projects you have been part of? Have you been surprised by what you have done well at in your career?
In some cases you may be most proud of an accomplishment because of what you learned and how it shaped your career. In other cases the follow-up questions are two separate components of the essay.
Either way the why behind your pride in accomplishment will reveal what you value most - whether prestige, credit, or the motivation to achieve your goals. Make sure that your values are aligned with how you want to be perceived by the admissions committee.
Essay Two: What are you most proud of personally and why? How does it shape who you are today? (400 words)
The personal is equally important to Michigan Ross, and the MBA program is designed to help you develop your leadership skills both in terms of professional accomplishment and personal and community interests. The personal attributes the admissions committee are looking for in applicants include community engagement and interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
When you consider topics for this essay you may want to write about an important extracurricular accomplishment, a challenge you overcame, or an event in your life that highlights something unique about your background. For example, if you have a track record of club leadership through college and afterwards that can be compelling evidence of your community engagement and leadership skills.
On the other end of the spectrum perhaps you have spent time outside your home country for school or work and that has shaped your teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
Whatever topic you choose, make sure you are addressing why it is important to you. What you learned and how you have used what you learned since in your life can offer invaluable insight as well.

While Khan Academy is an innovative platform for learning, it's not the only organization to use webcasting to educate students. Another fine example is NASA's Digital Learning Network. Now in its 10th year, NASA's Digital Learning Network delivers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) content based on NASA missions and research. Another way that webcasting is helping to improve education involves instructional support. For example, the Kentucky Department of Education is using video webcasts to provide agency updates, college and career readiness forecasts, school readiness updates, and much more to improve public schools in the state. According to its Instructional Support Network webpage, the department uses webcasting to "... build the capacity of district administrators to provide leadership in making connections between planning for instruction and planning for professional development. It is these connections that provide the foundation for continuous school improvement."

Should I Buy A Microsoft Surface RT?

In October of 2012, Microsoft did a huge favor to the American people. You see, everyone was busy and was were forced to watch all be political TV ads as they barraged their living room, but Microsoft had a new advertisement because they were marketing their new tablet computer. It was a positive message, and much needed within the debris of political rhetoric and the approving of all those messages. Their new product is called; The Microsoft Surface RT. I think I want one, and let me tell you why I am going to make this purchase.
First of all, the iPad is nice, it's a cool technology, and it has lots of apps available, and is easy to surf the Internet for news and other things. Further, you can read PDF files, and I like this because I run a think tank and I can take my research papers with me to Starbucks to sit and read, or on the road without taking my laptop. I also do a lot of traveling, so it's nice to have a small tablet, and I have my laptop back up still at home, not risking it flying around the country or to another country.
Still, I think the Microsoft Surface RT is a much better technology because you can use a full version of Microsoft Word which is very important to me as an online writer, and because I do business consulting. It's also wonderful to make plans and projects which I will inevitably have to have on Microsoft Word anyway. I can't do that with the iPad, and even the apps for word processing are simply not viable for what I need. The Surface RT however is a laptop and a tablet computer all-in-one.
Some of its early critics are obviously diehard Apple fans, or very much like the idea of the android technology and all the tablets that work on that operating system. Nevertheless I think for the small business person this is the perfect technology. So it's bound to be a winner with that crowd as well. Since 10% of our population is self-employed, that means just in the United States alone their market is 30 million. And that's without getting into all the other folks that have always used a Microsoft operating system and Microsoft word for their word processing program for decades now.
On October 22, 2012 the Wall Street Journal published an article titled; "Microsoft Dives Into the Retail Scene - Firm Takes Unprecedented Role in Dictating How Big-Box Stores Should Display Computers and Pitch Them to Shoppers," by Shira Ovide and Ann Zimmerman.
This tells me that if this Surface RT is marketed correctly to college students, small business people, professionals, and others that it will be a hot item, and has a much larger market potential than the iPad. Not to mention it's quite a bit cheaper as well. In any case I'm buying one, and those that are naysayers, or think this technology is inferior, are completely missing the point. Not only is it not inferior, it does everything I need it to do. So don't tell me it's not good enough. I'm buying one, and you should too. Please consider all this and think on it.

Time for a Modern Era Format Change For Scientific Research Papers - No More Multi-Columns

Well, we all have pet peeves when it comes to our education, and if you are someone who is out of school, and no longer attends a college or university, perhaps you've committed yourself to a lifetime of learning, as I have. No longer do I have to worry about boring lectures, socialist indoctrination, or outrageous textbook costs, but there are still some things that bother me. One of my pet peeves today is to look up a research paper which is written in a format that has two or three columns. Why you ask?
You see, if you try to do this on a modern computer device you have to increase the font size to read it, and then you have to read paragraph by paragraph, when you get to the bottom of the page you have to scroll back up to the top again. This gets really hard if you're reading from a PDF file with three columns, in fact it's so aggravating, that you find yourself skimming all columns at once to find what you are looking for, rather than actually reading, which gets very difficult when the research paper goes into new mathematical equations that you've never seen before, and you have to keep reverting to the top to recall what all those symbols mean.
It's not that I dislike the Oxford style research papers, they actually look good and present the proper whitespace, that is to say they are pretty, and it is a decent format, however it is not suited for today's technological devices, especially things like iPads and modern-day tablets. In fact, even on a laptop these types of formats that are multicolumn research papers are very hard to read.
Further, if you use the "text-to-speech" feature, it often messes things up, because tables and forms are often straddling two different columns. That is to say you might have a table with a graph which is two wide for one column, and therefore the text-to-speech feature can't figure out what to read next. Now then, I realize there is a lot of tradition behind the academic authoritarian use of these multicolumn research paper formats.
However, academia always tells us we shouldn't be afraid of change or innovation, in fact they tell us that they are the leaders of innovation and on the scientific edge of the future. If so, rather than living in hypocrisy, it's time for them to get with the program, and innovate by changing these formats so they work on the devices that everyone is using today. Further, they ought to go back and take all of those research papers, many of them going back many decades, and upgrade them all to the new format, then putting them online for everyone to read.
You might think I'm too harsh when it comes to these things, but if you read as many research papers as I do (currently averaging 12-per day), it's enough to drive you nuts, and it's been a pet peeve of mine for quite a while. Meanwhile, there's no reason for it anymore, it's time to break with tradition and get on with the future. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Different Activities to Stimulate Non-Verbal Communication

Non-verbal communication is one of the most underestimated and hard-to-master skills today. People claim that they have a lot of charisma and can charm people very well with their words: however, if they do not control their body language, they could be disappointed with the results. For this activity, you will only need some strips of paper and a bowl. You will write different emotions on the strips of paper: happy, sad, suspicious, afraid, any emotion will do it. Then, each of the students will pick a paper and will therefore be attributed an emotion. On the board, you can then write a pretty generic sentence. For example, you could choose the following sentence: "I am very excited to go the movie theatre tonight!" The goal for the students will be to make the others guess what emotion they are trying to depict only by reading the sentence out loud and trying to act the emotion. An angry student could cross his arms and stop smiling, for example. Students that try to guess the emotion should justify their answer using what they intuitively know about body language.
Making some dialogues
Another way to set up an activity could be by placing students in pairs of two and by giving them pre-written situations. One of the actors could be speaking and the others would not be allowed to talk, but would still have to say, or show in this case, his lines. It should not be a very complicated dialogue: the silent student could have sentences such as "Please calm down" or "I do not know what you are talking about", which can be acted pretty easily using gestures. This activity will show them that a lot of things can actually be said without saying a word.
If you are interested, you could also design a simple non verbal test, to see how much they already know. Non-verbal communication is not an easy concept to approach with young kids, but there are some fun ways of doing so. By awakening their interest in this subject while they are young, you could greatly contribute to shaping their future by improving their communication skills, which are essential in today's job market - and in life in general, of course.
